Hello Stephanie & Ruth, I can't believe that it is four weeks since you set off in the snow, with some trepidation, on your great adventure. You have, I'm sure, had a wonderful and very rewarding time. You have certainly enlightened me with your regular reports about your activities with the children and great work that is going on out there. Looking forward to hearing more about it when you return, so we wish you a safe journey home. Might even have a bit of snow for you! Bye for now. Tony W.
Stephanie: Hi! For those of you who don't know much about me I live in Wolverhampton with my husband Pete and two children,Joe and Beth. I work for the National Trust at Moseley Old Hall. I trained as a teacher of children with special educational needs and have taught in various schools. Going on this trip is really exciting for me and I hope I can be of some help to the Kukura Neshungu school!
Ruth: Hi, my name is Ruth. I live in Northampton. I've had two careers in my working life, the first nursing at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital and the second teaching children with special educational needs at Northgate School in Northampton.
Some people at church felt that at my age I should be sitting in a rocking chair, shawl over my knees, knitting, not going to Africa!
I like a challenge and as I am fit and healthy, hopefully with some skills in the right area, I had to accept. I look on this adventure as my 'gap month' as 'gap years' did not exist when I was younger. Of course, I will then go on to the University of the 3rd Age!
I pray that I will be of use to the young people and teachers in the group and that Stephanie and I will survive living together for a month!
